Couple of cooking spoons in Sycamore, the well used one is one i made for my old dear a good while back, its turned out to be one of the kitchen favourites, so much so she asked for a slightly bigger one in the same style for stirring big pans of soup and stews etc.

Do you run from a template or is it just a design you are so familiar with you can "eyeball" the carve?

Those are from a template, although i do like to freehand the carve as well, what i find is I freehand it and come up with a shape or style I like, so i make a template from it for the future.

Great spoons! That design is, in my opinion, just about perfect for kitchen duties (I say this because it is very like the spoon that I habitually reach for at home)

Nice.
I prefer free hand carving, allowing the wood to determine the final shape.

However a template helps with repeatability. I admire folk that can carve multiple spoons that look identical.

@ Wayne - i know where you are coming from, free hand is great fun as you can get some really nice shapes and styles, some of the templates i use now are of a direct result of a free hand carve, where the shape that appeared was just right, so i saved them as templates
