Couple of axe sheaths I made recently.

One is for a Hultafors 850g chopping axe, the other is for my new Stefan Ronnqvist viking axe. :viking:
Its 4mm veg tan. Very stiff and nice.

The axe in the background is a 4.5lb elwell, which I've just been restoring. I'll be making a full coverage pack saddle type sheath for that. Like they use on horseback/mules in the States. With buckles and straps.

They are sitting on top a log of english elm which I'll be splitting and carving to make the curved handle for the Stefan Ronnqvist axe.

This is what the elwell looked like before I began restoring it. :yikes:
It had sat in the back of my Grandads wood shed for probably fifty years.:viking:

Thankyou Hugh. Its a work in progress. The edge needed a fair bit of grinding. I need to get the B@stard file on it next.
Put a nice faithful hickory handle on it last week.

I wouldnt say I do a lot of them. Although now youve mentioned it, I do have a belt sander, and I'll give that a go before I go to the file.
