Actually all of my wood is scavenged, but I usually know what kind it is. I just found some cut log sections of this dumped out in the desert along with other yard rubbish. It was completely dried out, but is easy to carve and has some attractiveness to it.

The fluid twists are a delight to see extended from the usual ho-hum symmetry. Go big or go home.

In the meantime, you got the bent shanks of the gouges correctly done. That was brilliant.
Why not do that but put the bevels on the sides? Point the end.
Build a real PacNW style crooked knife for any concave surface.
Despite the fact that there are several competent bladesmiths in the PacNW, it is not at all
uncommon for native kids apprenticed to uncles or grandfathers to forge their own blades.
Truck leaf spring metals are favorites.

Thanks all for the feedback.

Addictive spoon carving, I see you are truly caught now!

I'm afraid so. The main reason is it's such a relaxing hobby for me. I get stressed when I work with metal, but wood makes me happy. Glad to have discovered it, and no doubt I owe it to you Brits. You guys have led the way.... Seeing the work of Robin Wood, Simon Hill, and Barn the Spoon was my inspiration....

Robson, your dedication to PacNW tools is second to none. :) I have my suspicions that you really work for Kestrel....

Sweet spoons! I really like the wavy profiles, they remind me of little landscapes with hills and valleys- or sand dunes! Very organic shapes. Nice touches with the carvings also.

Thank you. Didn't really think of them as sculptures, but it is gratifying to know they're visually pleasing. Ultimately, of course, they're meant to be used. My daughter's been using the second one pictured above. She likes it.
