Chutes work by diverting the flow of water down the chute instead of on your head but they are not actually waterproof.

What tends to happen as they wet through is that droplets falling on the top of the fabric knock water off the bottom, which creates a fine mist a bit like drizzle after a while.

and as we experienced at the Sussex meet, this mist can turn to an internal downpour at every seam if it throws down enough rain. We're still in the process of smoke tarring it and getting the pitch angle right.
