So after finally buying a blank I took to giving it a handle. I am completely useless at diy so it is nowhere near as good as all of the ones I see posted on here, but I'm happy as i did a lot better than I expected.

The knife is a condor Bushlore Blank.

I started initially by taping up the blade to help prevent any injuries.

The unkown wood was cut down to just larger than the tang. Then a rough shape was drawn as a template.

The Rough shape was cut and 5.5mm holes drilled.

Only had 6mm rod so sanded it down slightly after spending so long searching for 6mm drill bit with no luck. Sped up with a drill :)

Epoxy was applied and the knife was clamped to prevent movement whilst I let it set

The excess rod was cut off. Then the knife was sanded to the same shape as the tang (not perfect but good enough for my standards. Then going over with higher grit to give a smooth finish.

Obviously nowhere near your guys standards, but for me I think it will do just fine :) Ash

For a first go thats alright. keep reducing the courseness of the sandpaper and the wood will only look better and better and before you know it it will be A1.

Exactly, just working up the grits an it will look great. My preferred finish is linseed oil but do whatever you prefer the look of. And for your first attempt it looks great

Great job. :)

Like others have said, you can knock off sharp lines and smoothen it some more with sand paper in the hand. And if you put oil on the handle it will shine and seal the grain of the wood from moisture and stuff. Use cooking oil/olive oil etc, works just fine and will really bring out some of the detail in the grain.

This is before and after one coat of oil.. it makes a massive difference in appearance. ;)

Looking good ash! Personally I use a mix of 70:30 boiled linseed oil and teek oil. Applying many coats instead of soaking for one big one. Careful mind knife making is addictive!
I tend to sand back to 400g

Will do. I'll be out buying oil and grit tomorrow. Wish the shop wasn't shut :/ I'll post updates when it's done :)

this would be even finer if you'd decide to finish with a file (half round seems to suit the job) would refine contouring like a pro!

Sanded it up and it feels so much better than I had it. And after 5 coats of linseed/teek mix this is how it stands currently.
