Case hardening?

Frames/receivers were case hardened in the past ( done on replicas today) and they looked like that.

It looks nice. But, from a technical point of view, is the knife as strong as before?

No this isn't case hardened although that's interesting about firearms. I didn't know. In my early years making knives I ran into a few case hardened files though!

As for altering the performance, I highly doubt it. The entire thing was stripped and the colours aren't on the frame just the shroud which has no load bearing function really.

Just a bit of colour!

Colouring is good!

The case hardening was done to harden that part of the gun, plus improve the resistance to rust.
The barells were either browned or blued.

What process did you use?
