I have seen a lot of vids on you tube of peoples 'survival tins' and the task of water carry and purification.
Now I do have what I call a 'handy tin' as I know some folk don't like the survival tag in the UK and used to have a condom for the purpose of water carry if needed in some rare situation.
Today I had the thought of using instead one of those bags from the season and shake range. They are folded up real tight but open to a decent size and are ideal for this tin lark. I got one today and it holds well over 2 litres and is quite a strong plastic.
I then thought seeing as though they are meant to go in the oven I would see if I could boil some water in it by holding it over the gas hob high enough so I didn't melt it. I did get the water in the bag hot enough to not to keep my finger dipped in it before I got it too close to the flame and melted the corner.
I now wonder if it is possible to get the water hot enough to kill of the nasties with this method? Yes I could use a puri tab but being able to boil 2 litres of water in a plastic bag that folds up to a postage stamp size would be cool. You could even cook stuff in it over a fire?
Anyone else try this? Will have to get another bag tomorrow and do some more testing!
Steve.
