Review:
Coleman CR123A Lithium Pack-Away Lantern
Description:
Price: $60.00
Weight: 4.8 ounces (with batteries)
Size: 4/2.5 tall (open/closed); 2.5 wide
Light Settings:
High-100 lumens, 5 hours;
Low- 20 lumens, 12 hours;
Strobe
Bulb: LED
Battery: three (3) CR123A batteries (included)
Pros: The light is very small and comparatively light. It is collapsible, and has a carabiner with which it can be suspended from a tarp line. The illumination provided by such a small light is remarkable, and can be maintained for a reasonable period of time. During use I have rarely had to rely on the high setting. I find that the low setting is sufficient, which would provide about 12 hours of light. It is very resilient, and has withstood some serious abuse. The outside has a rubber coating which protects it from impacts. When closed it is almost impossible to brake. In camp it has replaced any use of a headlamp.
Cons: The cost is too high. That includes not only the light itself, but also the batteries. It uses three CR123A, which are very expensive to replace. The light also does not seem to incorporate any of the most recent digital regulators, which significantly extend battery life.
Time Using the Product: about 1 year
