Coastal fishing in Cornwall

Hi folks
Can I tap into the collected wisdom once more ? Am going to west Cornwall for a couple of weeks, have a strong rod and reel- is it worth trying spinning for mackerel off the rocky shores or am I too early ? If not spinning, what am I bet to fish for and how ? (I am not a sea fisherman, living in Bradford !)
