climping tape knot ?

i want to make a loop in the end of some climbing tape i've got so i can fasten it to my hammock, i don't have access to a sewing machine, can anyone recomend a suitable knot to do this.

the standard tape knot to join tape or make a loop is a simple overhand knot - you just need to make sure that the tape lies flat and neatly!

For just tying a fixed loop in the end of a tape (or rope), rather than tying the whole tape into a loop, I'd probably use a figure eight.

slightly off topic, but how long do the tapes need to be? and what's the best way to attach them to the hammock (group buy)...should I have two seperate tapes on each end or just one?

overhand knot, then bring the tape throught the loop you just made to form another loop. Clip the hammock into this second loop - that way it does not directly weigh onto the knot.

Any climbing shop will sell you climbing tape - also known as tubular nylon webbing. I've not had much luck finding it online, but there's no end of choice for standard webbing (which is what I use) on eBay.

think majickelly first recomended them, really quick delivery too, i bought 10mtrs, 5mts for each end of the hammock.

Tie and over hand loop:

then pull a length of the live rope through the overhand loop so it forms an easy release "loop". Clip a Karabiner into this and fasten the hammock to it.

You can use seatbelts for tape as well if ya like nice and cheap from a scrap yard

or the no ratchet load straps. 2 x 5m around the tree 2 or 3 times then tie the knots where needed.

you can also use them for other jobs.

I know this might sound a bit daft but when I was getting started climbing I found one of the most usefull and informative things out there was an Edelrid climbing rope catalogue, well that and a Petzl climbing and caving gear catalogue.

Showed me the knots I needed with little diagrams and all sorts of usefull stuff.
