Theres a few references to holly being poisonous, they don't however mention the toxicity levels if any concerning the bare wood or sap.
However the parrot references suggest not using it, and most perches are also chew toys essentially.

Take from this what you want.

It takes two people to work if something can be deadly, the first dies, and second remembers.

Holly bark and leaves were used as winter fodder for sheep, in days gone by.

What is deadly for one species is harmless to another.

I used to chew holly bark, and have drunk plenty of Yerba Maté (made of Patagonian holly) without any ill effects.

Mmmmmm, Yerba Mate. The wife brings home boxes of Stevia (sweet leaf) as a sweetner and there's a pouch of Yerba Mate in each box and I just been throwing them in a bowl for a couple of years and decided to give it a go. Good stuff.

Why for they called chop sticks?
I reckon it must be because they can be split off by an axe!!

The traditional designs seem to have one square end. Bet this is because that is how they are cut off a block. Then you might rub them down to a rounded tip.

I was going to make some and post some pictures but other things came up. Maybe in a few days.

Chop sticks or kuàizi in Chinese literally meaning "the bamboo-objects for eating quickly. "Chop" in Chinese/pigeon English means “quickly”
In Japanese they are called hashi which means “chopsticks”
In Koran they are called jeotgarak which means “chopstick stick” jeo means chopsticks and garak means stick.

But my absolute favourite in unnecessary products is the portable and waterproof bogroll-bag:

On the last Woodlore course I did they had one of those for the latrine site, and it also served as the engaged/vacant sign. ;) The latrine was situated in a clearing surounded by Rhododendron probably a five minute walk from the parachute, so the toilet roll along with matches for burning the used loo paper :yuck: was hung on a tree near the parachute. If the bag wasn't there then the latrine was engaged  Of course an essential camp rule was to make sure you put the bog paper back when finished or people would be waiting patiently at the parachute busting for a dump :lmao:

mainland chinese have recently gotten into disposable chopsticks in a big way, and now only the best restaurants have reusable ones. This is clearly not a good thing, but if you're out bushcrafting, it's different. You just find two little sticks, take the bark off them and they're ready. When you're finished you put them back where you found them, and you've wasted nothing.

Incidentally, for all of you who can't eat rice with chopsticks: neither can the chinese, they lift the bowl to their mouth and shovel it in. :)

it probably wasnt the paper that smelled bad when being burned but the more organic matter :D

I realised that :p it was just a bit disgusting especially as for some reason it doesn't burn very well and took several matches to get rid of it :yuck: :cussing: .

I don't know why but I found that I didn't need to go as often as normal when at home, probably due to eating less than usual and no I hadn't been eating biscuit browns:yuck: :yelrotflm
