Do you make any changes/adjustments to your home or daily life in line with the autumn season? Other than perhaps switching the heating on.

A few things we do which feel like ‘autumn’ things:

- Small table lamps on to create more cosy ‘mood’ lightiny
- Incense. Being cosy indoors with warm lighting and some kind of incense makes us feel extra cosy. My wife sources some really nice natural smelling incenses, not the soapy type
- Lots more tea is consumed
- Jumpers/sweaters. Sometimes I like the feeling of a colder room but with warmer clothing, rather than heating the house. And not just for environmental/financial reasons.
- Out with the ice cold lager, in with the real ales and Guinness

I know some people decorate their house interior to match the aeasons. If we had enough space to store four lots of decorations we might consider it…

Hygge !

This year I'm trying to lean into it rather than go the cosy torpor route ( not that there is anything wrong with that ) - So I'm enjoying traipsing through the woods of the local estate at night - using the head torch when only needed , trying to reclaim the night in some ways.

Nice try, Clark Kent.

In all seriousness, though, I think I spend more time outdoors during autumn than I do during summer.

In a sense there’s a cosiness to thriving in the cold and dark months, ‘beating’ nature by being cosy in spite of what it throws at you.

Though perhaps you’re alluding to something slightly different?

Hahaha!!

I just meant rather than settle into a box set binge culture during winter , which can happen , just trying to be out more regardless of light or dark . Nothing more complicated than that.

I change my home through the seasons. I've brought out the heavier quilts and throws recently. Put up the heavier door curtains, changed the doormats, made sure I had replacement bulbs for the lights. That kind of thing.
I quilt, and I make wall hangings, and I change those through the seasons too.

Thinking on it; I change the soaps we use at the sinks too. Different smells through the year just seems right somehow.

I sort of need to get this done about now. Put away Summer linens, shorts, jackets, hats etc. Dig out woolies, fleeces, gloves, scarves, buffs etc. Sort out skis. Find goggles, helmets etc. Find Kahtoola spikes. Pull out jars for tealights. Got to put the garden to bed next weekend. Air the quilt and put the blanket away. Find christmas lights. .... um, there's some other things missing there.
