Chance meeting with a woodturner.

I was walking the out-laws' dog by one of our local rivers recently and chanced upon a stall of wood turned items by a narrowboat, lots of stuff from doorstops to beautiful lidded bowls. I got talking to the boat/ stall owner and I asked her if she would knock out a couple of Willow (bow) drills for me. I asked her to add some grooves in the middle...

...I wondered if they may help the bow cordage stay in the middle. Perhaps the thinner ones might not but what the hell, I reckon they add to the look if neither set of grooves helps! I asked her if she minded me contacting the local paper because she plys her trade under license from the local waterways authority and uses Willow and Alder that she finds on the bank. This has a real artisan sort of feel to it for me and I hope the local rag picks up on it.
