Cast pot recipe ideas!

I have a cast iron pot, I’m challenged with providing the next outdoor work party food, hit me up with some ideas please!

Chilli is the obvious one but wanted a change!

Lamb tagine with apricots and honey (or dates) served over buttered couscous. Remember the white pepper, it makes it authentic (to certain regions).

Just boil a load of water in it then give everyone a Cup-a-Soup each !
For a group armed with sporks you can worse than a big pot of boiling water and selection of rat-pack meals they can heat up in the pot. Not only a filling bit of grub but each person can choose their own meal.

Alternatively, a venison stew with big, solid, sunken, suety dumplings is my personal favourite when time allows. Not really a meal for the hot weather, but in cooler times it really does hit the spot and it 'sticks to the ribs' as they say

In a cast iron pot I avoid cooking acidic foods, for example anything containing tomatoes.

Onions, meat, carrots, turnips, cabbage... All are great. But not tomatoes, citrus fruit, vinegar, wine.

If the pan is very well seasoned, then it might be OK. But it there is any exposed iron, the acid will attack it and give the food a flavour of rust...

It happened to me a couple of times, years ago, when SWMBO washed out one of my pans with detergent. She knows better, now, and doesn't touch them at all; I scrub the pan with rough steel wool and boiling water, then put it back on the gas to dry it and then oil it straight away.
