I finished carving my first spoon today, it looks rough but its a start. I'm not sure what to do now though, should it be left in oil for a while or cooked in oil? Thanks.

I could make a suggestion, but it would get me banned.

Cant anyone carve anything other than spoons?

Stu from Apache Canoes told me (regarding oiling my gunwhales):

"oil every day for a week, every week for a month, every month for a year"

love oiling my gunwhales I do, maybe your spoon could be subject to this regimen...

There we go! Made from some pine I had left over in the shed from building a fence, carved with a Mora Clipper and SAK. It'll do for me.

Just made a couple of spoons. I'm experimenting at the moment. I've put them in a sandwich bags pour in some oil and popped in the microwave for 30 seconds. The hot becomes thinner and should soak deeper and quicker into the wood.
