Canvas hammocks???

I have a frontline hammock and think its a braw peice of kit but iv always wanted tae pitch it close-ish tae a fire for extra heat etc but embers would burn right through it.

so my question is, does anybody have any experience which canvas hammocks? either bought or handmade.
i know you can buy garden hammocks of canvas with the wooden frames but i wondered about more mobile ones. im sure it will all come down tae weight eventually....but im just curious as wouldnt mind trying one out or making one

Over the weekend I'll weigh a 1.5m x 3m peice of canvas that I've got. I don't know the grade but its not 12oz tent stuff.

I used a canvas hammock in Ghana and in hot weather it proved more comfortable than the nylon one I used in Thailand.
Mind you it weighed about 10 times as much so was a swine to carry in the heat!

Polycotton could be a good light(er) weight alternative to canvas.

would that resist sparks/embers etc if pitched close tae fire?

It's much more resistant than nylon or polyester, but not as resistant as pure cotton. If you have to carry it though, it makes more sense.

anyone reckon this would be anygood? seems fairly light. nae sure about durability and how reliable the information is. may buy one for a test hmmmm
