Hi Mate,

No need to cry...a waterproof sleeping bag isn't a good thing :) If you've ever spent a night in an orange survival bag you'll know just how wet and sweaty you get...well a waterproof sleeping bag would have much the same effect.
Your body needs to be able to breath inside your bag and will be much warmer for being drier inside.

You could try using a treatment to help make the bag water "resistant", but I wouldn't advise you try and "waterproof" it.

Best bet is to either use a good sized tarp to keep the rain off (lower it if it's raining hard) or buy a bivibag made of gortex or similar (ex- dutch or british army ones are good for the price of about £30 to £40ish). Other than that it's a case of curl your feet up so they don't stick out the basha and choose your pitch well so it doesn't flood :lmao:

Hope that helps mate,

Bam. :D

Does anyone else remember a magazine that waterproofed a sleeping bag, and shown a bloke inside it, floating in a swimming pool !!

Would have been mid 80's IIRC :o
I remember an advert for a bivi bag where they had set it up in a stream to show how waterproof it was, IIRC it was before goretex so not breathable  I guess he would have sunk under the weight of his own sweat after a while!

Think you would be much better off buying a bivibag. Waterproofing anything will involve a bit of cost in nikwax products alone. A second hand military goretex bivi will sort you out and will eliminate the need for a tarp on all but the wettest of nights.

Admittedly the bivibag will need rewaterproofing now and again, especially when you wash it, but the bivibag will add extra warmth to your sleeping bag and make it much more robust. Excellent when you have just bought the latest woodlore sleeping bag at £165!
