Ok i know im an idiot but why is it better to have heavy or cast frying pans?
You see how it works?
Proclaim your idiocy , and then feel free to ask the obvious or a question that you have been afraid to ask for fear of ridicule or whatever.
I believe we could learn a few things especially some of the not so experienced members such as myself.
Btw, my question was a real one.

Well for one thing when it gets treated no stick of food in pan when it gets hot you can turn the fire down and still cook and not burn your food and clean up is easy just water paper towel no soap most of our cooking in house is cast iron my 2cents 4 cents uk

what meths do you use in trangia burners, is it just the "normal" purple meths, we use IMS (industrial methalated spirits), would this be teh same, is there a specific type, what do you look for ?

I believe its all the same stuff. IMS is not so readily available but is probably cheaper to those who have 'access' to it.

I just use the purple methelated spirit in the clear plastic bottle you get at hardware stores. Adding 10% water helps to stop sooting of your pans although it will burn slightly cooler. As for ims i'm not sure, hopefully someone will put you right.

well the heavy cast iron frying pan is good because it spreads the heat evenly. this means less chance of burning whatever you're cooking.
titanium, while light is a pig to cook on. it doesn't distribute the heat very well.

Ohh, ohh! I'll take this one!

There are any number of justifications; I haven't bought a new pair of leather boots since going veggie (5 years ago) but I'm certainly not going to throw out the ones I have-those cows were already dead and no good comes of discarding them, and is in fact a waste.

Others justify it on the fact that leather is a byproduct, not the real product of the meat industry and that those cows are killed for their meat, so why not make good use of the leftovers?


Others are just plain old hypocrites.

I had one to add, but I don't remember it now.

Yes - all life is sacred and every living thing depends on something else dying to keep it alive. As with "energy" Life cannot be destroyed only transformed into another form of life. IMHO veggies (especially those who talk to their plants like HRHCharlie does)unless they are veggie for health reasons, are simply missing the point - tho I respect their opinions and that which says I am barking mad -and it is morally fine to eat any edible substance including human flesh (accidentally killed - roadkill style...) as long as the food source is recognised and respected as part of the eternal and sacred.
I have doubts as to whether chicken nuggets actually count as a food...
As to rights/responsibilities - I maintain that those who ignore their responsibilities forfit their rights, although the law disagrees with me, itself ignoring its responsibilities to maintain my rights!

We use cast iron frying pans at home, they really are grate as long as you don't cook anything sugary in them.
