I am thinking of making a camp knife to compliment the rest of my kit.

What do you use and why?

I now use an Enzo Trapper for everything, used to use a Mora but wanted something a bit more substantial. I find that it manages everthing well, holds a good edge and is easy to sharpen.

I've used it from everthing from feathering sticks, battoning, whittling, food prep etc very versatile knife.

By camp knife do you mean something that stands up to some good hard punishment? If so it's a J Adams Mod survival knife which has been modded slightly, great for splitting and those jobs when you don't want to use your belt knife.

That is the type of thing

Or a leuku type?

This is my favorite. Blade by Brian Harrison (9" long blade, 1/8" thick, ATS 34), handle and sheath by Paul Savage.

I asked the same a while ago. Ended up with a leuku and loved it. Just last week i got hold of a FGYT Nessie and got to say it does everything apart from really delicate work for which i have just ordered one of his smaller knives.

Question is

What do you want to use it for

Or

What do the sharps you carry that its intended to compliment Not do or not do well enough to warrant the extra weight and space of another bit of kit or can it replace one or more items that are heavier etc

Design is fun but best to start with a good reason

a simple sharp mora and the reason why is £14 rather than the big money others spend on a knife

A £4 mora will do all a £14 mora will, as will a shapened, pointed table knife i suspect.

Still as Rob says "BIG KNIVES ROCK" (I think i have found my new tag line)
