Camp axe/hammer tool

  • Come along to the amazing Summer Moot (21st July - 2nd August), a festival of bushcrafting and camping in a beautiful woodland PLEASE CLICK HERE for more information.
Not got one like that (looks cheap and nasty)

but have several hammerbacked hatchets (wood handles)

Ill let you have one if you have something to trade

For knocking tent pegs and wooden stakes etc into the ground a more general purpose axe or hatchet such as a Gransfors Bruks does the job nicely. If you are on a budget I have heard good things about the axe from Argos.

I'd give it a wide swerve if I were you, it doesn't even look like six quids' worth.

THESE I believe were once called roofers hammers, the claw was used to withdraw the nails from the laths and the hammer used to replace old slate,I used to see them a lot a long time ago and I have one out the back but I cut the claw off of it but its a heavy ugly unbalanced piece of kit.I remember an old man using the axe head to pear the 2x1 timbers to fit.
