Hi,

Does any one know the calorific value of well seasones (1 to 2 years) of sweet chestnut , its ash content and its likley moisture content. Also is it bestter to chip it for wood chip for wood fuel when its cut or after its seasones?

Any help appreciated

3100-3200 kWh per tonne (will vary dependent on moisture content, but should be sub 30% wet basis by that point), Moisture - between 20-30%? if air dried ( will depend on where it was stored). Ash is 0.1-1.0% dpendent on ammount of bark included.
Chipping is easiest on your chipper when green - BUT very difficult to dry chips and lots of issues with green chip storage.
