Hi Firemaker,
Here in the UK, we're more than a little tied-up in legislation to combine the two skills. We're prohibited from hunting with a bow and so the use of broad-head tipped arrows is frowned upon even for target work (just try buying broad heads anywhere in the UK, nigh on impossible!) We have tournaments of target, clout, field archery etc but, as folk want to get arrows out of target bosses, there is a general acceptance that the target-pile/point is the only type to use. In archery circles, you can make and shoot a broadhead but you're likely to be viewed as a bit of a nutter by the purists. Then taking this further to your suggestion of a knapped flint point, and it all falls down - it would be madness to use such a fragile point against a straw target as it would likely shatter on impact.
I'd love to have the oportunity to hunt with an entirely self-made set up but it's just not done on this side of the pond.
Besides which, if you'd have seen my flintknapping efforts at this summer moot, you'd have understood why I personally don't knapp my own points
