Bushlite "heat deflector"

Hi all,
I bought a bushlite during the last GB, they are great, but I have a question: The top of the lantern has what they call a "heat deflector" - a metal disc that slides across the top, opening or closing the top of the 'chimney' (if you see what I mean).
It looks very similar to the simmering disc for a trangia.
Can anyone tell me what this "heat deflector" does? Does it have a function?

Hmmm, only a guess but is it used when you're hanging it from something like your tent roof? Using the deflector would probably dissipate some of the heat and reduce the likelihood of melting or charing the roof of your tent.

As far as I know it's used in conjunction with the mosquito tablet attachment as can be seen in this picture.

You put a tablet on the attachment and the heat of the candle cooks it and releases an mosquito deterrent
