The scales are basically curly birch that have a mixture of water based and spirit based dyes baked into the wood, before being sanded back to achieve the result you see.

in total there are around 30 layers of dye on this knife, all lovingly mixed together in quantities to achieve the result.

The grain on the wood is specially selected so that the dyes stay where they should and this pattern can be repeated mopre or less time after time

( Although stroppy bought this one on the condition that is was a unique pattern never to be repeated... pains of death and a comment like." And i'll show you just how sharp the blade is" kind of made me agree.)

Almost all colours can be mixed providing there is a contrast between them.
