Here's an idea (and it's probably not an original one)

Imagine a large but slim full tang bushy knife.

Now imagine we replace the tang with a woodsaw - like a small laplander - still with me?
Between the knife and the saw we have a pivot point and a couple of notches to catch on a couple of stop pins.
(imagine a svord peasant but both ends are business ends)
Attached to the pivot point we have a handle which has a slot running right the way through to allow the blade or the saw to pass through.
The handle pivots 180 degrees underneath the saw and blade to switch between one and the other. Any pressure on the blade pushes against the stop pin in the handle.

Needs a bit of work, but I think I may be onto something?

Cheers

Mike

Jesus that looks horrific!, just imagine if the saw popped out while your having a chop at something! I think the EKA with both blades down would be much better dude!

I don't like it all, Harks too much of 'survival' knifes to me, jack of all trades and master of none. Give me a simple knife and saw anyday.

I am with you there ... but the EKA gutting knife worked just fine.
The idea of sharp swing blades is not new ...I think the Vikings started it ... but a knife with a saw...the knife would need to be bigger than average so have a sawblde that was shorter than average ...all in a very long handle...
Nah
I will stick with my knife and saw separate :)

Mr. Fenna. Your attitude to combined use cutlery is well documented. Your anti spork campaigns the subject of national debate. Therefore it comes as No surprise that you are anti "knaw".

Any links about these Viking swing blades?

surely with that though when your using the gut hook both blades are pointing up, unless they do one with a symmetrical handle that could be turned over once the blade is rotated, what about the gerber exchang-a-blade, this seems like a good idea, as the length of blades isnt limited by handle length and you wouldnt have a sharp blade in your hand waiting to slip, not sure of the strength of the joins though

I see what your saying but it looks a better system than the one lower down, also your not putting that much pressure on a gut hook as you would with the tasks youd use tha knife for, and the saw would be pushing and pulling not really pushing down that much, but the up turned saw on the other knife shown just looks as if if would rip your palm to bits,
