Saw a burdock plant being dug up and thrown away a few days ago, so I rescued it and took it home, with the idea of possibly planting it in my garden for dandelion and burdock, or to try culinary experiments with the root. It's been sat in the spare watering can with water for a few days to keep it going, untill i had time to deal with it.
This morning, I tidied up a few of the leaves before planting in my wild garden, and noticed they are quite fibrous, so experimented with treating the stalks like nettles to get the fibres out.
It is quite labourous, but I managed to get a small handful of shortish strong fibres. I imagine the stalks would yield better, but I didn't want to damage my one and only plant.
I think they will make excellent cordage. Anyone else tried with burdock?
