I like my Aeropress to be quite honest. It’s no more faff than a French press.

That friend who was over on Sunday started to sleep. In Monday morning we were talking about making coffee and she mentioned having a "briki", the word that Greeks use for what I described earlier as "cevze", made from some some sort of ceramic; she's worried that heating it in a gas flame will make it crack, so I recommended the technique described by @hughtrimble of heating sand in a pan, and half burying the"briki" in the sand, so that the heat is less concentrated.

Neither would I, in any way knock the enjoyment of a simple ritual. Our woodland time is filled with dozens of them. All power to you.
But:
It includes a consumable - the filter.
It requires a series of techniques such as wetting filter and coffee and careful inversion of tube containing hot water.
Only then does it become a cafetière.
Why not use a cafetière?
(Or a Zylis cup - coffee, water, pause, depress filter - drink)
So many folk here approve of the Aeropress that I’m certain it works well and makes good coffee - no argument there at all.
But:

I am vastly outvoted by the BcUK population who very much agree with you Steve.
I’m a winter camper and a coffee addict. It’s been a difficult winter to be outdoors. Very very wet. Simple was required. When I say I like it simple - I mean simple!!!
In no way was I intentionally opposing or patronising you. Perhaps using the word “involved” rather than “faf” might have avoided any offence.

I like a cup of coffee when I reach the end of my regular dog walk. I have a fire-pit there and a hidden kettle
My trick is to take water, powdered milk ( or a small scavenged bottle of the real stuff) and my tin mug. In the mug are home-made sachets of coffee mix. For me that's one and a bit spoons of coffee and 2 spoons of sugar in a small ziplock bag. This way I can choose which coffee I want.
I use the same bags to store individual firelighters too. Just set light to the whole thing and get a brew on !
These are the sort of little bags I use. They have no-end of uses keeping kit dry and together ....

If I'm at home I drink freshly ground filter coffee . When travelling one cup sachets suffice. It's no big deal they last forever and I can put up with an inferior coffee from time to time. I pick up a pack or two when in France where there is a wide choice. I drank one yesterday with a best before date in 2012. It was OK.
Nessmuk preferred tea when out and about.

I have several of the little manual espresso pumps that come from Chinese aggregate sites. Possibly a bit more 'faffy' than some of the other solutions here but it does make a reasonably good short, strong shot which you can then make long if you prefer. The latest one takes both ground and one particular brand of pods, although I haven't used it with them yet. I'm not saying I don't drink instant coffee at all, but I'd need to out of tea before I'd willingly drink a cup!
Aeropress really isn't a faff; pop a filter paper in the device before you leave home, and ignore all the guff about inverting the thing. That said - and I have no links to this outfit - I rate Raw Bean coffee bags. Only problem; you need to pack a sealable bag or other container to hold the spent coffee bag.
The ones you found are made of what to me are questionable plastics. I'd go for paper or natural materials ones. My vote is for the cowboy coffee. A last minute splash of cold settles the grounds down if you wish.
They wash and are resuable if they're made of the fabric.....I did say that the 'good' ones can just be burnt.
