Here is low cost knife I recently finished about £7 to make.
The blade is a Karesuando 87 mm carbon blade.
The handle is hawthorn with red deer antler and red fibre spacers and a brass bolster. For the handle I only bought the brass.
The sheath is half tanned leather wet moulded but I need to work on getting the dying more even.
There were some splits in the which have been filled with epoxy sawdust and brass filing mix so now it glitters.

My sixth knife and sheath

Nice looking knife and sheath, glad the epoxy worked on the handle Alf. how did you get on with the Scandi sheath, had a little go myself last week, made a right pigs ear of it.

This about the third I have made and I find them quite easy. What type of leather did you use? I have used halftanned leather and found it easy to wet form. when I tried with 3mm veg tanned I made a pigs ear of it. the halftanned leather ends as stiff as a board when it drys. What was wrong with it may I ask.

I know, tall order.......but I like a challenge!! I've got a drill and a stubbon streak so anything is possible!!!

If you want to make a stick tang you dont need much more. I would sugest some needle files or a dremmel type tool (to widen the tang hole) and a hacksaw to shorten the tang maybe and you can achieve the rest with sandpaper and patience. for the knife itself. some files would help speed things up.
The sheath will require a knife, needles a drill for the holes (I use an awl but use what you have) and some thread.

It is possible with the above and if you buy a kit at about £25 it is quite easy IMO.

I have to admit I tried 3mm veg tanned, Last little bit I had left, so I feel an order comming on for some half tan once I have payed for the bits I have just ordered from Brisa.
It ended up being very difficult to mould to shape, I still have it and plan to shave its thickness down some more so its easy to work to shape, I also think it may be a little too tight, not for the handle, more so the blade, I will keep trying with it though, it might work out yet.

Sounds like my effort with 3mm veg tanned try again with half tanned and see the difference
