Bruce Parry

New series last night, Siberia.

Reindeer herders, what a tough life...for the reindeer that is.
Great tent to eat and gather in though.
Here Bruce toasts the fire as a welcome to the area.

As usual - A great programme (so far in my opinion). Love his respectful approach to other cultures and love how he throws himself into the deep end and constistently removes himself from his comfort zone to gain respect from his hosts.

Smartly, for his own personal experience, he soaks up the spiritual and shamanic aspect of their lives with out making the tribal family feel uncomfortable or intruded upon. He has also dealt with this (still taboo) aspect of our past and present lives at just the right level for our dear, conservative, Western audience.

Can't wait for the next one..........hc

Would have been better without the heavy 'shamanism' aspects. Detracted from a very good programme but I guess that's part and parcel of the 'Bruce Parry experience'. I am happy to have my mind opened to other cultural aspects but I thought his efforts were heavy-handed and patronising.

Now - I found the Shamanistic side of the program the most interesting part!:) And I thought he handled it all quite well:)
If we were all the same then it would be a dull old world eh? :D

I didn't find the shamanism patronising to the host, may be a little patronising to me but then that is a reflection of my beliefs. I did enjoy the program, but did get the impression that it was more of Bruce going on a spiritual discovery rather than a look at the arctic which was reflected in his initial disappointment with the reindeer herders (which was the bit I most enjoyed)

It is amazing to see how adaptive these cultures are, my wife and I thought they had no chance once they had lost the tank track!

Also what is a problem with alcohol in that part of the world, it seamed normal to be nocking back the vodka at every oppertunity! I found the bit wher the guy was discussing his issues very moving, a drink issue in that community must be very seriouse

He has a laugh while he is doing it. Which is why I personally prefer his shows to RMs.

Really enjoyed this programme, they are always worth watching often insightful and sometimes quite moving. Every small village needs its own community tank, brilliant. can't wait for next week.

Even SWMBO watches Bruce Parry and Sir Raymondo, and for the same reason, they show utmost respect for their hosts.
I watched Robson Greene in Extreme fishing and thought his approach to the locals was bordering on insulting.

i am the same wifey watched it too......a rare treet for her to be up that late.......

Robson Green pahhh, i used to like his program to start of with, now i dont bother, due to his ill manners oh and being a g*b s**te...............

respect to bruce and the herders he had the honour to stay with.............

Bruce you rock...........
