Hi,

Spotted this after seeing the book just now while out buying lunch. Re enactment of the Scott V Amundsen race too the South Pole with Bruce leading the British team. Looks like it has potential. See here

this is also an intereting quote from the text

I was aware that he was a Royal Marine, however, he seems to have had quite fast track career. This is from the BBC website:-

"He stared out life as a Royal Marine Commando at the age of eighteen where he specialized as a Physical Training Instructor. His six - year career culminated in his appointment as the head of all physical aspects of the UK's Commando Training Syllabus at the age of 23."

He certainly showed his training when he did a very slick "make safe" on the AK47 in one of the programs!

Should be a cracking program.

Blizzard: Race to the Pole

9:00pm - 10:00pm

BBC2

2/6

Problems caused by the fractious and unruly sled dogs are starting to hinder the British team in the second part of this gripping re-creation of the Scott- Amundsen race to the South Pole (transferred to Greenland). They are appallingly behaved, much to the quiet consternation of the usually calm and collected Bruce Parry, the Brit-team leader. Harnessing is painfully slow because the animals won't do as they are told, and to make matters worse, a storm is on its way. And when it arrives, it's ferocious. Visibility is reduced to zero and it's barely possible to stand upright. So everyone has to wait. There are other serious problems when one of the British team has an accident that requires urgent medical intervention. And there's much ribaldry when another intrepid explorer gets a boil on his backside that needs lancing. Prepare to grind your teeth, much as the unfortunate patient has to do, as the medics prod his bare bum with a nasty-looking knife. It all makes for a heck of a journey, that's put into context with readings from Scott and Amundsen's journals, and contributions from experts in polar exploration.
