Hi folks, i thought you might like a look at some stuff i,ve made recently.
A Birch carved bowl,that still needs a wee bit drying left to do,before sanding it smooth.
And a Hobo cup for my hobo stove,made from a tin can.
I made a fish trap for the Scottish skills share weekend.I took pics as i went along making it,but its only now i have gotten round to posting it up.
I started out with a piece of Willow which had 4 thin branches coming out from the main branch,i had to reinforce these spindly branches,as they were to thin and they started to spread when the hoops were put in place.I used Hazel for the hoops,which i heated up and slowly manipulated into hoops,the hoops were whittled down at the ends so as to give a flat surface for the bindings.I used Raffia for the bindings.
Here you can see the hoops in place.
And a close up of a hoop in place.
Then i started to put on the outer sticks,which were all Hazel.
Making progress now,here i have completed the outer sticks,and put the bottom front row in place,these have to be shorter to allow for a door to get your catch out.
Here the front and door are complete.
The door.
Next i had to make the inner cone,again making 2 hoops of differing sizes.
Then it is fitted into place and bound.

And finally the finished trap.
I also made a landing net,again made of Hazel.I again heated the branch but bent it into an oval shape instead of round.The net its self i knitted using the tubular netting method,and its Jute.
Once the hoop was made i had to thread on the net,then bind the hoop closed,then it was just a case of binding the hooped net onto a shaft.
Completed landing net.
I also bound the net onto the hoop so as to stop it slipping around the hoop.
