The conovers run guided winter expeditions into Maine, Quebec and Labrador. Their company is called North Woods Ways. www.northwoodsways.com/
They travel on snowshoes pulling sleds. Sleeping in tents heated by wood burning stoves. They have adopted many of the "old ways" used by native Americans of the area. The book just makes you want to go out there and do it.
Perhaps not exactly what you are looking for but has lots of how-to-do and how-to-make information. Recomended.

The Conover book is one of my favourites. I've found the various military winter survival and operations manuals to have excellent tips also. Calvin Rustrum's Paradise Below Zero was inspirational to the Conovers. It is dated, shy on detail, but a fun read. Any anthropological study or book dealing with northern peoples is going to be full of anecdotal information. Early arctic explorers were told to never eat bear liver by Inuits. As it turns out, the liver holds excessive vitamin counts that are toxic.

Mors' book is based in the Boreal north but the Conovers book is type specific being based solely on winter/snow brrrrrrrr my bums gone blue cold type terrain.
These guys dont claim to be bushcraft masters, jacks of all trades regurgitating same old same old, but they are experts in that one field, so far better to learn from them.

For some lightweight reading try The Good Life: Up the Yukon without a paddle, by Dorian Amos ISBN 1903070309.
It's a true story of a painter/ cartoonist from Cornwall who in the late 90's
decides to pack it all in and go and live in the Yukon.
It's a good read as you hear how from a base knowledge of zero he and his wife gradually learn from their mistakes to a point where they are now competent with living in what to them was an alien world.
He is now a ranger in the Yukon Park, lucky so and so.
You have to admire his guts for doing it.
