Bit of a tidy up!

I noticed lately a proliferation of dog turd bags slung in the bushes at the entrance to my street and finally had enough and rang the council to have a moan yesterday. They said they would look into it and also I asked if they could provide me with some litter picking implements so I could do some tidying on my walks as the place is a mess. They took my details and to be honest didn't think anything would happen.

Well today a man from the council came round my house and asked to be shown the pile of turd bags. They pulled out over 100 bags from a 10 yard section of hedge and also put some signs up warning to clear up after your dog! He also provided me with 50 bin bags, a nifty litter grabber and some gloves!

The place I walk isn't council land but the fella had no problems with me having a clear up as you would not believe the rubbish here that never gets cleared up. The amount of trash tapers off the further into the walk but the bit near my house is strewn.

I only had half a days work today so spent the afternoon wandering around in the sun picking litter (and quite enjoyed it) and and in a 100 yard stretch of path by the fields yielded this...

Got 200 more yards left of that side of the field to do then the rest of the way there is much less! I can leave the bags at any rubbish bin for the council to pick up thank goodness!

This rubbish situation was really starting to bug me so had to finally do something about it, why do people have to trash the place??

Steve.

I went to the local nature reserve today and someone had dumped a load of old tyres, plasterboard & a model helicopter... Wish I'd caught them in the act...

Yes would love the turd collector to get caught, disgusting it was and the thing is there is a specific turd bin over the road in the park not 50 yards away!!

We used to get a lot of roadside dumping down our local lanes which even would block the lane sometimes! That seems to have stopped.

Most of the rubbish today was plastic bags and drinks bottles/cans and from the looks of things a lot had been there a while but as the vegetation had died back it was even more visible.

Nice one, I always pick up litter every time I go on my favourite walk.

It really blows my mind how many people must drop it though, I mean what's wrong with these mindless peasants ?

Well done. I hate to see the trash that people leave behind and try to clear it the best I can. It saddens me that people are so uncaring about the dropping litter.

top man. good to see someone taking things into there own hands and actually getting help from the council. if its a big task an you need some extra help, try your local geocaching organisation. they organise "CITO" (cache in trash out) events where they group together to clear up an area as an "event" and leave only a geocache in place of the litter
