Went for a bimble around Beetham yesterday - picked up a few geocaches and did the 'Fairy Steps'. Its a great environment for kids (and grown ups!) with loads of semi-natural woodland and limestone pavement. Sam (3) did the whole walk under his own steam, just over 5 miles with only a quick butty and brew stop near Slackhead.

We found him a good hazel stick that someone had snapped off and left - just a quick trim with the Supertool saw had it just the right length for him. He wouldn't let go of it, even when he was asleep!

Stopped off for a look at a Glossy Ibis near Scout Crag.

We were all a bit weary when we got home, so Sam and Jim (Sam's pup) had time for a quick bath before bed.

Lovely pics. Somebody's gonna sleep well tonight! :) We should try to meet up, I only live a stone's throw from you. Used to take my lads camping on Bowland many moons ago.

Do you know anywhere good to camp in Bowland? The Trough road is always busy with lads with festival tents and 24 packs of lager. I'm up for a meet, my weekends are taken in January but anytime after is fine.

No, not really, I was hoping you'd know it better. I used to go to the Langden Brook area but strictly speaking it's a 'no camping area' as it's a water catchment area. Maybe the lager louts have moved in since then - 20 years ago. Nothing against lager - I drink it myself. :)

It's ridiculous! There is bugger all happening in our area but there are loads of BCUK members around. I have to go all the way to Devon to get a decent weekend camping, bushcrafting and socialising. The only local meets seem to be on Scout campsites - which is fine, but far from ideal.

A permission site in the Bowland area would be wonderful.

Oh well! Maybe we can just meet for a beer one day and dream what could be! :D
