Now for something properly different, I'd have tried Irish Whiskey. A Bushmills "Black Bush" or a "Malt Bush", or even something from Jameson's would be very good. Bushmills is the oldest whiskey distillery in the world and Irish whiskey is distilled 3 times instead of the normal 2. And remember, Whiskey was invented by the Irish after all.
Try Tyrconnel - knocks all other Irish malts into the shade!

We like the Bushmills 16yr old 3 wood, quite complex without being too unique so an ideal pressie if you don't know what someone likes. Tends to disappear quite quickly though...

It pays to shop around as the prices for Whiskey/whisky does vary from shop to shop. If you know anyone passing through duty free it's often worth asking them to look around for you, once you've berated them about their carbon footprint of course.

Any thing from the scotch whisky soceity !! Usually a tad more than 50 quid but as the alchohol is usually over 58 % then its like four bottles in one ;)

Failing that laphroiag 10 year or lagavulin 16yr if you like the tasy whiskies

Glen Scotia is also a nice dram..
