I've finally managed to pick up a fab 2 man canvas tent within my small means (see below). I bought it knowing that it would need a bit of attention and having looked over it I've been lucky- the most it seems to need is a patch on the inner fly and a couple of repairs to small pinholes in the canvas. Whats the best way to fix the small pinholes?

cheers guys

If the holes are really tiny then prehaps you don't neeed to worry as when the canvas gets wet the fibres will swell anyway...............if you don't want to sew on patches you could apply daps of a contact adhesive on the holes & let it dry or light a candle & pour drops of melted wax over them.....do this on the inside so it doesn't show.

Hi unclebob
If it is just a pinhole, the canvas should swell up to close it, a simple reproofing should fix it.
If bigger this stuff should do the trick. Tear-aid type A
I must admit I haven't used it and fingers crossed won't need too.
When I got my canvas tent this was the stuff that was recommend ( I do like to have a repair kit when away)

Thanks guys for all of the advise, the holes are literally the width of the parting of a couple of threads.. so really tiny but I'm guessing would still leak a little if not addressed and i wouldn't want the holes to become any bigger. I'll have a go a glueing them this weekend if only to stabilise them and will let you know how i get on- failing that it'll be patches all the way! Is it best to put the spot of glue on the inside?

good looking tent, is it 40's or 50's dated? I've got the same pattern but brown and 1945 dated.

I'm not sure of the date- I've not found one as yet as I've not had a proper chance to put the tent up, its rained since I picked it up! The guy I bought it from thought it might be from the 50's but from what I've seen the 40's and 50's ones have the same pattern? Where would the date be?

cheers everyone

Anchor supplies Nottingham (army surplus) have canvas repair patches. They are ready glued strips about 2"x 6" charcoal black-ish in colour. I bought some at 20p each but it was some years ago.

I had one of those army pup tents, didnt even know they should have an inner, but cant complain as it was free. Anyway I found the date on mine on the inside and it was 1986. I recently took the doors off mine so I have a 7'x9' canvas tarp
