Just a thought, but does anyone here use a bench grinder and polishing mop combo to maintain, attain a a sharp edge?

I've heard it can be done with good results and that some people use a leather wheel to strop.

Anyone here got any practical advice or experience?

As ever, thanks guys.

Kim

All my knives are finished on a polishing machine you can get them super scary sharp on a buffer it takes a bit of practice to get it right though , and you end up with a very slight convex edge, best thing to do is buy a 8" bench grinder from axminster and then buy a conversion kit to make it into a buffer much cheaper than buying a buffer

Hi Kim,

Yes. I use a buffer in my shop. Not always but when I'm in a hurry. It does the same work as a strop just a thousand times faster.

You do have to be careful to just barely touch the blade to the buff and keep it well below center so it doesn't catch.
