Belt kit

I think belt packs work better on separate belts and don't put anything on the belt that holds your trousers up.

I have a very old Kipling bag, its like a bumbag but it has double shoulder straps on it, they don't seem to do it any more, good for small loads. I'll try to remember to get some pics of it in the morning.

I just read an article about making your own front pack out of a kiddies backpack, interesting.

Absolutely right. If nothing else it makes certain, er, daily routines a lot easier.

For some ideas you may like to have a scan through this (warning: long) Youtube video from MCQ Bushcraft in which he describes his kit. He likes his Maxpedition stuff, which he can attach either to his rucksack or to his belt. (And his channel is worth a browse for other ideas as well).

I have recently converted to using a snugpak response pak and find that it can hold alot in a small space. Often I have taken a backpack and put stuff in that never gets used.
With a bumbag all you take is important items and it even fits a US canteen in the main compartment. No sweaty back after a hot days hike either.
Another plus is you don't walk around looking like war has begun, as you would with webbing pouches etc.

Well... I have a UK army dpm respirator bag, a snugpak response pak style bag and a 58 pattern bottle pouch and I might be buying some pouches off of the net so I'll sorta mash all the ideas that I think would work for me together and see how this goes!! I'll show you guys what I decide on.

I've bought a few of these and have them put them on Molle webbing (after adapting them slightly). They are the closest to genuine issue I have seen, certainly better than Webtex or anything else. I've sewed a 'snow cover' inside and they are good. They're not 'flage so may look slightly less military. Not connected etc...

These look good. Would they fit a 58 water bottle with a crusader cup?

Yes they are but there's a quick mod you can do. I've done it on one I still have I'll get a phot later. It's easier to show than describe.

I'm not a huge fan of belt kits because they interfere with the hip belt on my backpack. I'm not sure what pack you use, or how your belt kit will work with it, but it's something to think about.

I carry just about everything in my pack, with just a few items in my pockets. I have a knife in my right pocket and some small items in my left (matches, lighter, tinder, flashlight, repair kit, etc): http://woodtrekker.blogspot.com/2014/01/pocket-carry-kit.html

Here's the mod I've done in the past. I had three water bottle pouches on a Karrimor Predator, pics here

I think I sold it to Ozzy1977.

Basically using the large belt retainer designed for the PLCE kit on the rear heat a knife or similar to make a slot at the top. The PLCE pouches I was on about have the snap on a webbing tape at the rear so you can slip a tactie or similar underneath to attach it to Molle kit. You need a bit of squeezing but it fits.

Thanks for posting that. I was going to buy a few but the postage soon added up. If I'm passing Leicester any time I'll pick some up though!
