Whilst using my buck knife today on the game farm it just struck me that maybe us here on bcuk should have buck knives as the official blade since our name is on the blade but in a anagram form . So what do you think good eh

don't think there's any need to take that attitude mate, you would do well to listen to these two, you will have to go a long way to find two nicer people will the ammount of info, knowledge and help they have to offer.
Yes wayland very nice but a little pricey for a lot of people. Just thought a buck would be cheaper and came with a no questions asked guarantee couple that with the four letter link and it’s a winner - yes

Why should '"us here on BCUK" choose a crappy american knife as an official blade when there are so many other blades available to choose from - and it does come down to a matter of personal choice. To choose a tacky, flashy, gimmiky knife over something functional and practical just because they have the same letters in their name is ridiculous.

I can kind of see your logic there Dragonferret, even though the link between the two is a bit weak.
But there's no way I'm shelling out for a Buck knife just because it's name is an anagram of an acronym of the name of one of the many bushcraft sites I visit.
It'll probably take a better reason than a similar name to make Tony lend the name of the site to a tool manufacturer. Quality and craftmanship would come higher on the list but unfortunately those aren't areas where Buck excels.

I've had and used severl Buck knives over the years. In MY OPINION they ain't worth the extra price you pay for their NAME. You end up paying a lot extra for that ... name.
They can be good for people who seldom really use a knife, but not for anybody who uses one enough that it ever needs to be re-sharpened. I know several pretty well known knife makers that HATE to "try" to re-sharpen a Buck knife for a friend who asks. They usually just tell them to throw it in a drawer and go buy another one - or get a real knife.
Tips on knives break - depending upon how you use (abuse) them. And Buck knives are no exception, although they do tend to loose their points a little more than "cheaper" knives. That ... extreme ... hardness heat-treat does make them hold an edge longer, but it also makes that knife a little more susceptible to breaking - and a real b***h to sharpen.
I prefer a ... working knife ... to the luxury of paying for their "name".
These are but my humble opinions based upon my experience and that of my friends. They ... can be ... good knives for some people, but we prefer others.

The folding pocket knife is a $12 usd Uncle Henry from the hardware store. I beat the cr*p out of it for everything. I even cut a steel belted radial tire off of a rim with it. (On a piece of farm machinery). The next is one I made from an old sheep shear. The shear cost $5 usd, and $2 usd for the chunk of antler. Then spent an hour or so ... tinkering. The straight one with the antler slab handle and brass bolster was made by a friend. I probably got $40 usd in trade in it. It's my "use for everything" belt knife. The far right one is ... OK you caught me ... knife porn! A friend gave it to me. I use it, but not as much as the others. It probably would be priced around $100 usd nowdays, maybe a tick more. (because of unknown maker) The design is less "utilitarian", but more "fighter".

cheap and easy to keep, Opinel which is an anagram of "Pile on" with nearly all bushcrafters do when at the moot. both in poundage and when work was needed to be done
or Frosts Mora which as as cheap and even easier to keep , and anagram of which is
O Rafts Mors. which we all would.

At least two of those knives are cheaper than the average price of a Buck knife and one of those has outlasted an average Buck knife by about 100 years already.
So what do you think is a winner?
Just browsed the Buck website and my immediate reaction.... damn they're ugly knifes 
. I couldn't find a single one on there I could truthfully say I'd want to carry.

I like quality tools and moved away from anything even resembling a Buck knife when I hit 18 and started to learn what else was out there. Bearing in mind that prior to that I had no exposure to the internet. These days, if you are serious about wanting a good knife, rather than just whatever happens to be for sale in your local shop, there isn't a lot of excuse for buying a cheap (nasty) knife, unless that is actually what you want to buy! For a little more money you could buy something by Spyderco, Benchmade, Cold Steel, Kershaw, or for less, Opinel and Mora, all of which would be better made on the whole, and most important of all, take a better edge.
Beside that, the anagram thing is pretty weak. Sorry, I think you are onto a loser

I had a buck knife.
Didn't like it. Balance was poor and it didn't sharpen without extensive effort with my diamond files.
If they work for you, that's fine, But I prefer something that is cheaper, of better quality, and more user friendly.
And I have plenty of experience of knives. I know what I'm talking about.
