This chap decided to sleep outside my front door last night, I grabbed a pic and the flash activated (I usually have it switched off). It is still sleeping several hours later so I presume it wasn't disturbed.

Are there any bat experts out there who can advise as to whether flash photography is something that might disturb a bat? There are quite a few living hereabouts, I often climb onto my roof to watch them hunt during the early evening.

That is a great picture! Thanks for posting it.

In a wilderness area near me, I stumbled upon a "bat hotel" while hiking. Bats have lost so much habitat because of human encroachment that the managers of the open space built a structure they could call their own. I thought that was very cool (and smart) of them to do.

Don't use flash. It will scare it. Long eared bats are quite timid.

I didn't know that, suspected it might be a bad thing when it fired, asked here and I won't do it again. :)

He/she is still sat there, my kids have made a point of tip-toeing past it so it can sleep in peace.
