That is sound advice spamel and I always teach my Scouts that.

I always get them hold thier work (when carving wood) and knife in front of thier knees for safety and show them how to do other cuts as it becomes necessary.

It amazes me that on courses it's always the blokes I have to be reminding about sitting with the chopping block between their knees :yikes: quite apart from the risk to the femural artery you'd have thought they'd want to protect their assets :rolleyes: Our mantra is always knees together, work to the side.

We also never ever mix knives and alcohol. It's just way too easy to become over confident, even after just one beer, and do yourself serious damage.
