Axe selection

Well got a painting job for an old lady tomorrow so to console myself the amount I asking for the job just happens to be about the price of an axe!!
So read the suggestions and fig the sfa as its gonna be used for kidling bit of carving etc.
But how long is the haft?
Finally suppliers (Uk or otherwise I do like a bargain )

The helve is 50cm (20") long.
Woodlore sell them for £45 (if you don't mind having the Ray Mears logo embossed on it) and they're also for sale in our very own BCUK shop for £46.50. Both those prices are reasonable for the SFA.

Other than that I don't know.

I got myself a SFA from outdoorcode for £41.95 plus £1.00 for postage. Have used it quite a bit highly recommended.

I'd use the BCUK shop for now - some other suppliers are having delivery problems and its nice to support this site. You can shave a few quid buying in the US, but if it gets lost or customs get you it'll cost more in the long run.

I would say, if you're gonna have one, have the small forest axe. If you want more, then I think I'd have a scandinavian and my Cegga.

The Cegga - now nigh on impossible to get, will do almost everything I ask of it. What it can't do, I'd want something big, with more heft than the small. Scandinavian then.

Now I come to think of it, maybe I'll sell my small forest and buy a scandinavian, or I may just try to slip a scand past the wife......

I use a small Gerber with the poly carbonate handle a great little lightweight camping axe thats tough and extremely sharp
