It's so nice walking this time of year as the days are nice and cool, and without being assaulted by insects.
With winter not far off, the animals are busy with their preparations. We have red squirrels in the millions, I'm sure. A definite sign of squirrel activity is seeing pine clippings
Carrying on I find this huge pile of spruce cones. This fellow either has a voracious appetite or is anticipating a long winter
This spruce is decorated like a Christmas tree from top to bottom with various mushrooms
The blueberries are abundant this year. In old burned areas, they grow so thick that the ground is blue
A wolf track
And a moose track
The terrain is varied. A bit treacherous to walk across
I find it pretty though
The terrain as mentioned varies considerably, from rocky glacial to sandy to muskeg, along with mature forest and huge tracts of burned areas. Rivers, creeks and thousands of lakes. It makes for an amazing variety for a day out.
Burned areas like this are common. This fire occurred about a dozen years ago. I'm standing right at the edge of the burn.
Turning 180 degrees shows what it looked like before
This fire was one year ago. The jack pine seedlings have a long way to go before maturity
A caribou trail crossing a bit of muskeg
Keeping a close watch shows a few hairs where the trail goes through the bush
I hope you enjoyed the pics as much as I did taking them
