Anyone used a chainmate/sabercut saw?

I've been looking at these for a while, for use in a survival kit. Anyone used these and could give me any thoughts?

Never used one of these but have used a wire saw it done the job ,but the best option in my opinion a small folding saw

I would use a folding saw, but it wouldn't fit in the kit I'm making. I'm trying to make a survival kit that'd fit on my belt in a maxpedition mini pocket organizer.

I have a sabercut saw, and found it very affective. The straps are starting to wear just were the straps join the chain.

I have one and without doubt it is effective - it takes a lot of energy to operate as you cut a wide swathe through the wood.
A folding saw with a thinner blade removes less material but cannot always operate in the same way.

For example - I once found an idea camping spot but it had a dangerous branch above it - by tying cord to the handles of the sabre, I was able to throw one end over and cut the offending branch away - I do not envisage the same cut with a folding saw being possible, let alone leaving the blade able to function after the event.

I have one - don't rate it (needs two hands, you can't brace the workpiece properly)....the original trench saws were something else.

I would suggest a SAK with saw - a lot of tool in a small space

they work hard if you do.

you can try making your own.
knock the locking pin out of a new chainsaw "blade".
insert heavy split rings in the resulting holes.
loop some light rope in the rings and saw away.

I bought one from Wilkinson's a few weeks ago. They are quite good for large fallen limbs etc, but like has been said, its harder work than a folding saw. Mine cost £7.99 so can't grumble.
