Just looking at summer holiday ideas with the wife, a pal went camping in Austria a few years ago with the family and really enjoyed it, the trouble is I'm not sure where he went and we've lost touch recently.

We're looking for nice clean campsites, preferably in the mountains, lots of walking, sightseeing and general exploring.

We've done Chamonix to death over the last few years but really enjoy the vibe of the place, lots to do as well if you're the active type, an Austrian equivalent would be perfect.

Anybody done anything similar?

I camped a few years back just over the Brenner Pass inside Austria. Road Taxes, I think you can get daily ones. Quite a pristine area, like Swissland, and nearly as expensive. The site had coin operated showers and hot water for dishes.

Lots of forrested hills compared to the Dolomites, where I left from to pass over into Austria.

I would suggest a day trip over to the Dolomites of you can make it, fantastic area and very different to the Alps and Pyrenees.
