I need some on advice on how to get tracks off an old Sony MP3 player into my new computer ?

The computer recognises the mp3 player as a drive but when i try to view the folders on it they are not showing as music tracks. The only software that recognises all the tracks is sony sonicstage. If i use sonic stage it lets me see and play the tracks but will not allow me to transfer the tracks as it states i used a different computer to put the tracks on in the first place
Some sony "mp3" players used the proprietary ATRAC format - if this is the case, you'll need to use the latest SONY software to reencode to mp3 I'm afraid.

Thanks for the advice Mountainm, but that won't work as I can't transfer the tracks to my computer in order to convert them. When I plugthe Sony into my new computer the only way I can see the tracks is through sone Sony software called Sonicstage. If I open this it allows me to view all that is on he player, it even allows me to listento tracks. Trouble is when I try to transfer the tracks into the softwares library it won't allow it as it states I used a different computer to put the tracks onto the player.
You could try installing loopack recording software like "replay music". this will record and id the mp3s as they are played. So you'll need to leave sonic stage running overnight.
Not got the actual computer, but i did take the hard drive out of it. I got an ICE thingy and can connect the old hard drive to my new laptop but have no idea how to use it to sort this problem out.

You can do it through DOS, as the tracks are only data, you can used a Copy command to transfer any file format from one drive to another, hidden files can be seen by using the Attrib command, once on your hdd you can then use your application to open the files
Sony provide a tool (software) for doing so, however it won't work with DRM'd files.

load the computer as normal, and attach your Mp3 player and wait for the little message to appear that tells you a new drive is ready to use.
go to the start button and choose 'RUN' a box will appear in which you type CMD. this will cause a terminal window to appear with a 'C' prompt (C:>)
type in the drive letter for the mp3 for example E: (if your not sure what it is use the 'My computer' to find it.
the prompt will now look like this E:>
type in 'dir' to list the files on the drive, once happy there all there
type in 'copy E:\ C:\windows\the folder name where you want to put the files
if all goes well all the files from the mp3 player should now be on the computer

If you own the origional tracks that you have on the mp3 player then it`s not illigal to download copies of them from torrent sites...But i guess that`s a whole nother topic really..

I would go with BPR you could use Utorrent or a program like Youtube downloader that lets you rip mp3's direct from youtube videos. Other than that you could try contacting Sony see what they suggest.
