You either love or hate anchovies - a bit like Marmite I suppose. I'm a bit partial to anchovies on toast, and after removing the anchovy fillets from my tin of Sainsburys anchovies in olive oil with garlic and herbs thought I saw an opportunity for an oil lamp.

So, I cut a piece of jute twine, put it in the anchovy oil left in the tin, and lit it.

I can now confirm two things:

1. It works very well as a small lamp, and
2. Don't do this in the kitchen when the wife is around.................

I remember hearing a lecture from Blashford Snell that he used to do something similar with a tin of sardines in order to heat them up. I think he said he used fluff from his socks as a wick, but I expect that was to spice up the story!

To be honest, it didn't smell too bad, at least to me. Wife thought differently! However, all three cats and the dog immediately appeared to watch proceedings....

Kudlik, eh? Typical Innuit, stealing my glory:)
