I have watched most of the videos and was wondering if we have any tarps like this in England to cut down on shipping costs?

I love the ease that it goes up in a pyramid but can't quite figure out how he did it from a flat tarp.
The tarp is sold here...

There is some great equipment on that site as well as videos and some fun tracking games.

I have a tatonka 3x3 metre tarp already which i believe is version 1.
thanks :)

Yeah, i've just been looking at that and it comes with a floor and pole too. The only thing i didn't like was the window.
I didn't realize that Wayland had one.

The other tarp i linked to seemed to be just one sheet that you can erect in a number of different ways. maybe i got the wrong end of the stick from that video.

I'll keep searching. The tatonka one might be ok . Darn sight cheaper than the golite Shangri-La.

It was the versatility that i liked though as well, all from one sturdy sheet.
I wish the Gb - US exchange rate wasn't so poor at the moment.

There is another thread on this with more information:

Take a look at the layout that shows the locations of the grommets and loops. Then watch the video again and you will start to figure it out. I tried it this past weekend with an 8' x 10' tarp. After moving stakes a few times I got something similar. I believe the 9' x 12' they use would work better. I just received a 12' x 12' nylon tarp from Sportsman's Guide and I am going to have to add some more attachment points to it so I can try it with that tarp.

I think that tent set up would be good in public campgrounds, in winter or really wet conditions. But most of the time I think I would prefer a more open set up.

I really like the Tatonka Pyramid Tarp, its pretty versatile, quite light, and the window can be used as a stovepipe outlet (with a kevlar stove jack).

A nice touch is that the centre pole packs away in the manner of a babooshka doll, the optional floor is a well thought out piece of kit too.

Bilko, I have tatonka as wel and just ordered 4 clingons in order to perform the same trick as the NW woodsman. Basically place two clingons half way the center attachment point and the corners and the other two at approximately 2/3 of the sidelines, then raise the other end at the the center attachment (where you'll normally attach the ridgeline)... sounds eays huh?
Check the tarpology pdf available at 'equipped to survive': http://www.equipped.org/tarp-shelters.htm

Try it with a square piece of paper and it will all make sense.
