How about this as an alternative knife for bushcraft chores and that is, I understand, available at $215? Just a thought.

Dozier knives are very well made and just cut and cut. He is one of the top makers for using D2. My only reservation is that all the Dozier knives that I have seen (only a small number compared to the range he makes) are rather narrower in the handle than seems popular for bushcraft knives.

Narrow handles are good in that they help index the blade and provide better fine grip for activities such as skinning or butchering. They also pack and carry more easily. When used for heavy carving they can make the hand a bit sore.

Mostly its down to what you like and what you are used to. Bob Dozier makes very good knives aimed at people who use knives in the real world, many are for bush use. As with any knife purchase, you have to evaluate whether the features the maker has included suit the way you use a knife. Some people like more point for carving, some like less to aid skinning. Its not always easy...which is why some of us have every growing collections of pointy things  :lmao: :lmao:

What a superb idea! :D

However, I do agree with Chris about the handles. Bob designs his outdoor knives mainly for hunting. But Bob is a true custom maker and I'm sure he will put a nice wide handle on any knife requested for a little extra fee. He has made a couple customs for me.

Gene Ingram is also an excellent choice and he put a nice fat handle on this thin blade for me.

Sure are cool and workmanlike looking pieces of kit! If I hadn't recently commissioned Alan Wood to make me a two-knife set, to include a copy of the Loveless Nesmuck ("crooked skinner"), I would have gone for a cobination of two of what I see here. Having said that though, as the AW's are to be in Damascus and rams horn, perhaps I can sneak a second set by "She Who (sometimes) Must Be Obeyed" on the basis that such will be my 'heavy use' pair!! One can but try!

Cheers

Hoodoo, just out of morbid curiosity, what the hell do you do for a living? I might want to take up that line of work, whatever it may be :D

I have the Dozier in the first picture of this thread, where as its extremely well made, its more of a general purpose outdoor knife, its not as good for bushcraft as say a "bushcraft" knife, saying that a "bushcraft" knife would not be as good for heavy duty general outdoor work as say the "Dozier. :bluThinki "
