Hi guys!
I've seen or read something about a DVD called 'alone in the wilderness'. Apparently it's about a guy who goes out into the wilderness and builds a home and a life out in the wilderness. I've looked on play.com for this but no joy! I've found it on ebay.com and amazon.com but neither will ship to England.
Has anyone seen it? Is it worth me pursueing it? Does anyone know where i can get hold of a copy in England? Help.......!!!!!

The book, the DVD and the recently released continuation of his journals are all well worth having.

There are a bunch of links at the bottom of my article about the books, the National Park site of his cabin, and the DVD.

The continuation of his journals can be purchased in a soft back book or downloaded for free....again see the links in my article to this followup.

Apparently another compilation of some years of his journals is in the works by the Park Service.

Thanks guys. Will get both the books and the DVD i think. Thanks for all your help and info. Those going to the middlewood meet- see you there!

I've just watched the DVD ('Alone in the Wilderness') and enjoyed it greatly. Dick said at the start he was interested in testing himself, on his own for an entire year, come the end of the hour long film I was gobsmacked to learn he spent 35 years out there, till he was 82 and was finding the -50 temperatures tiresum on his ageing body.

A truly amazing story and I was pleased to learn more about the man on Wikipedia:

I downloaded the DVD from a torrent, but I'll be buying his books. There are also more films about him that are shown on http://www.dickproenneke.com/

Just found an absolute gold-mine for a read and insight into Dick's life in the wild, with the National Park Service releasing a 500 page (PDF) document with illustrations, photos and his journals between 1974 - 1980.

The PDF document is 50mb in size, so you will be better of right-clicking the link below and clicking 'Save Target As' :

I'm close to 20 years late getting to this...just seen snipents on You Tube...any Idea where I can get hold of all 4 of his DVD's in the uk?
I don't really fancy forking out over £100 to have them sent from the USA!!
